It's the only robot vacuum/mop that has an exemplary 10/10 in our tests thanks to a blend of high-tech sensors that include cameras, a structured light system and multiple lasers. The X40 Ultra is also the only robot in our tests that is fully self-refill and empty its base station, and boasts an industry-leading 12,000Pa suction and self-cleaning mop pads. The X40 is, like the other iRobot products, is simple to use. It has a simple mobile application interface and integrates with Amazon Alexa and Apple HomeKit. It also comes with a front-mounted camera that can detect hazards in real-time however this was not completely foolproof in our tests, and was sometimes confused with obstructions or power cords. Its vacuum has a high maximum suction of 7,000 Pascals which is more than enough to complete the task. It also has an attribute called “Intelligent Dirt Detection”, that regulates the vacuum's power and adjusts cleaning frequency for different areas in the home based on how dirty these areas tend to be. For larger houses it's recommended to choose one with zone or spot cleaning modes that let you tell the robot to clean one particular area of your home by using the app or via voice commands. If you have lots of furniture, a stair-mode is also useful. It also mops using one pad and a rotating motion which is cleaner than the majority of the robot mop cleaners that we've examined. It's self-sufficient too, with a fully-featured app as well as a self-emptying, washable base. The iRobot app is designed to help you navigate a mapping run that collects data on your floorplan and any “no go” areas you've marked on the map.
